Toastmasters Club

QUICK FACTS:
We meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at 6:45 pm at The College Church, 58 Pomeroy Terrace, Northampton, MA.  (This gives us 15 minutes to settle in, greet friends, get a snack, and be ready to start our business meeting at 7:00p.)

Our next club meeting is on Wednesday, August 4 at 6:45p.  The meeting itself will begin promptly at 7:00p.

MEMBERS:  Be sure to bring your Competent Leadership Manual with you each time we gather - get credit for the work you do in the meeting!
CLUB NEWS:
    • Theme for 2010-2011:  Have Fun -- and Get It Done!

      • What will YOU do this year to increase the fun-factor at Speakeasy?  Got some great ideas for theme meetings or creative ideas for Table Topics?  Ideas for activities to shake things up a bit?  If we aren't having fun, we aren't doing it right!
      • What goals do YOU have for the year?  Have you scheduled your speeches to finish your next communication award?  Have you charted out your functionary roles in upcoming meetings so that you can complete your Competent Leader (CL) award?  Make a commitment to yourself and to the club - get on the schedule and Get It Done!

    • District 53 Sponsored Club Officer Training:  There is 1 more opportunity to attend the 2010 Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI):  Saturday, July 31 at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY.  Additional information is available on our Club Calendar.  You can see the 2010 TLI catalog at www.district53toastmasters.org/forms/TLI_Catalog_2010.pdf  (Note:  While there is a Division-sponsored training described below, club officers are STRONGLY urged to attend an officia TLI session as the depth and breadth of training will be much greater.)

  • Additional Officer Training Opportunities:

2010 Division E Club Officer Toastmasters Training

    Tuesday – August 3, 2010

    6:00 pm to 8:30 pm

    Chicopee Library

    449 Front Street
    Chicopee, MA 01013

    413-594-1800

Here are just a few reasons to attend club officer training in the summer:

    • The training is free, fun and effective.
    • When at least 4 of your club officers are trained in the summer, and 4 are trained in the winter, your club achieves Goal #9 of the Distinguished Club Program (DCP). . . and, more importantly, this commitment is one component of a healthy Toastmasters club.
    • Elected officers have the opportunity to:
      • meet district leaders and others who can assist them during their terms
      • discover and share ideas that can help them improve their clubs
      • discuss with district and other club officers the challenges their clubs may be facing
      • share experiences and solutions for these challenges with fellow club officers
    • Statistics show that clubs with 4 or more officers trained are more well-liked and in general considered much cooler than clubs that don’t.

    Refreshments will be provided

(It may be tap water & day old donuts – but we’ll see if we can take it up a notch.)

    Please contact Cathie McCoy or

Frank Fasano at with any questions and to pre-register.

(Pre-registration is requested, but not required)

Division E encourages all club officers and any interested Toastmasters,
especially those considering taking an officer role in the future, to attend.

Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped millions of men and women become more confident in front of an audience. Our network of clubs and their learn-by-doing program are sure to help you become a better speaker and leader. Why pay thousands of dollars for a seminar when you can join a Toastmasters club for a fraction of the cost and have fun in the process?

Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation. Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent or retiree, Toastmasters is the most efficient, enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication skills. By learning to effectively formulate and express your ideas, you open an entirely new world of possibilities. You’ll be more persuasive and confident when giving presentations, and you’ll improve your one-on-one dealings with others.

Don’t worry! Everyone in a Toastmasters club was once at the level you are now. The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced program allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment. And you’ll love the applause! Constructive evaluation is the heart of the Toastmasters program. Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will point out strengths and suggest improvements. At first you’ll be applauded for your effort; later you’ll be applauded for your skill.
